Removing risky billboards
May 25, 2022 00:00:00
Billboards are everywhere in Dhaka city. And nowadays, it appears that the capital of Bangladesh has become a 'city of billboards'. The placement of advertising billboards, banners and placards is so intense around the city that most people residing in the multi-storey buildings behind them cannot see the roads in front of the buildings.
In summer, Dhaka city often witnesses nor'westers and storms. During these natural disasters, billboards become death traps for city residents since they collapse and cause casualties. In most places, billboards have been put up in an unplanned way, posing great danger to pedestrians and passing vehicles. Both the city corporations of Dhaka should formulate new guidelines to get rid of these risky billboards that have been put up haphazardly. We expect the authorities concerned to remove all the risky hoardings to ensure the city dwellers' safety.
