Replacing plastic bags with jute bags

August 02, 2024 00:00:00

Despite the High Court's verdict favouring a ban in 2020, plastic bags are still being used in hotels, restaurants, and shops. The continued use of single-use plastic is responsible for heavy pollution, threatening the sea, rivers, lakes, and fish species in Bangladesh. It has emerged as one of the major environmental threats to the country.

To gradually eliminate polythene bags from the market, entrepreneurs can introduce jute bags as an alternative. Jute bags are eco-friendly products that can create significant opportunities for entrepreneurs.

However, the jute sector has been experiencing a decline and requires support from the government to revive it. Providing subsidies, credit facilities, and technical assistance to jute farmers and manufacturers would be sufficient to help the industry. If jute bags gain popularity locally, other countries can learn from our sustainable entrepreneurs.
