Resume anti-mosquito drives

December 09, 2023 00:00:00

Although winter is just around the corner, dengue is still here and taking a heavy toll on public health every day. The disease seems to have now become a yearlong endemic. Dengue cases can be found across Bangladesh throughout the year. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), around 1,000 dengue patients are hospitalised every day in December. The anti-mosquito drive has, however, seemed to have slowed down. This has allowed mosquitoes to breed again freely. It has resulted in people still getting admitted to hospitals and some succumbing to the disease.

What is more stressful is that any previous contact with dengue fever does not guarantee future immunity. The only way is to take preventive measures to stop the virus from spreading. The best way to get rid of it is to maintain cleanliness as the carrier mosquito, Aedes, breeds in stagnant waters, close to human habitations.
