Rethinking about PSC, JSC

May 19, 2014 00:00:00

Primary School Certificate (PSC) and Junior School Certificate (JSC) have been introduced a few years ago.

Students in the UK once used to sit for a public examination at the age of 11, and according to the results this public examination, the children could choose their further course of studies -- the brilliant ones were selected for grammar schools and others had to choose technical schools or some other schools.

This examination was found not to be good for the children, psychologically, as they faced various problems while participating in the public examination at a tender age. So the authorities stopped the examination. Like the UK, many developed countries do not have public examinations similar to our PSC and JSC or even SSC (Secondary School Certificate) examinations.

Media reports indicate some bad impact of these examinations on the children. There are various other complicacies as well. The government can rethink how far public examinations at a tender age is beneficial for our children.
