Rise in drug abuse

January 11, 2020 00:00:00

More than seven million people currently suffer from illicit drug disorder. It is no less dangerous than any deadly disease that causes death and suffering. The number of drug addicts has increased in the country with an average of 114 patients taking treatment every day at public and private facilities, according to the Department of Narcotics Control.

Availability of illicit drugs is the number one cause of the rise in drug addiction. Experts also said inability to cope with failure, boredom, loneliness, and changing family structure are among the factors responsible for drug abuse. However, drug addiction destroys a person physically and psychologically.

When anti-drug drive was launched in 2018, many people became optimistic about positive changes leading to a healthy generation. The authorities concerned need to take steps to stop drug menace for saving the future generations.
