Risks of overindulging in mangoes, jackfruits

June 20, 2024 00:00:00

Summer heralds the arrival of juicy fruits like mangoes and jackfruits, cherished for their taste and nutritional benefits. Mangoes, hailed as the "king of fruits," are packed with vitamins A and C, fibre, and antioxidants, promoting immunity, digestion, and skin health. Jackfruits, known for their aromatic flesh, provide vitamin C, fibre, and potassium, aiding digestion and cardiovascular health.

However, overindulgence in these fruits can lead to health issues. Mangoes, high in calories and natural sugars, can contribute to weight gain, especially when coupled with a sedentary lifestyle. Excessive consumption may cause spikes in blood sugar levels, posing risks for diabetics. Moreover, the fruit's fibre content can cause digestive discomfort and its high fructose levels may trigger indigestion or allergies.

Both fruits can provoke allergic reactions in susceptible individuals, with symptoms ranging from skin issues to respiratory distress. To enjoy mangoes and jackfruits safely, moderation is crucial. By practising portion control and maintaining a balanced diet, one can relish the benefits of these summer fruits without compromising health.
