Road under Hanif Flyover needs attention
July 22, 2022 00:00:00
Mayor Hanif Flyover from Gulistan to Jatrabari seems to be a blessing for the people who live near the mega-structure. It has greatly reduced the travel time for many of us. But unfortunately, the road under the flyover is the worst in the capital city. Once, it was in good condition. But since the flyover was opened to traffic in 2013, people crossing the areas under the flyover has been suffering immensely due to dilapidated roads, unauthorised structures and bus parking. The situation has aggravated after the opening of the Padma Bridge, which has increased the traffic movements in the areas.
Since the road under the flyover is unusable, almost every driver is forced to take the flyover. And too many vehicles create huge traffic congestion on the flyover, which can sometimes linger for hours. Media outlets have already reported about the condition of the said road, but sadly very little effort has been made so far by the concerned authorities to improve the situation.
Poor maintenance of many roads in Dhaka is one of the main causes behind recurrent traffic jams. We hope the road under Mayor Hanif Flyover will be repaired and all illegal structures and parking zones will be removed immediately. Once the road is repaired it will help reduce traffic congestion on the flyover.
