Rural sanitation simplified
March 03, 2015 00:00:00
A simple, viable and workable solution is available that brings sanitary safety, hygienic and germ free cleanliness for simplified and safe toilet disposal to rural areas, where the usual facilities of electricity, safe sanitation and clean water supply are not available.
'Peepoople', founded by Swedish architect Andesr Wilhelmson, is an established nonprofit organisation for solving this problem in remote African villages based on Mr. Wilhelmson's experience of working in those villages. It is a bucket sized bag, safe and biodegradable, that can be fitted over a water bucket or even a clay flowerpot sized vessel. After peeing and pooping into the bag, just tie the top of the bag, and bury it in a shallow earthen pit. It is odour free for twenty four hours so that you can bury it even next morning! The inside urea based lining of the bag inactivates and kills all harmful bacteria, virus and parasites. These bags are biodegradable, and mingles with the soil within a year.
Wilhemson's 'Peepoople' can be contacted by any NGO or social organisation or even municipalities or sanitation department of the government so that use of this safe disposable bags for discarding rural sanitary waste, can be widespread across the countryside, particularly in the remote villages of Bangladesh.
