Satkania Govt College needs canteen
December 11, 2025 00:00:00
Satkania Government College is one of the oldest and most reputed institutions in South Chittagong, drawing thousands of students, including many from neighbouring districts. Despite its long-standing legacy, the college still lacks a healthy and hygienic canteen, which has become a serious concern for students and teachers alike.
In the absence of an on-campus canteen, nearly all students and staff are compelled to rely on roadside food shops. Unfortunately, these eateries offer items such as stale potato chops and chickpeas, low-quality fried snacks and singara with mouldy fillings. Many shops operate with poor hygiene, unclean kitchens, substandard ingredients and inflated prices. Cigarette smoking is common in these food stalls, creating an unhealthy environment for young learners.
There have also been alarming reports of milk mixed with caustic soda, chemically flavoured drinks and tea cups washed in contaminated water. As a result, a large number of students are frequently falling ill. Stomach pain, indigestion and other digestive problems have become everyday complaints, sometimes leading to more serious health complications. This situation is already affecting class attendance and academic performance.
I earnestly request the college administration to take immediate action to establish a safe, affordable and hygienic canteen on campus. This would significantly improve student well-being and protect the reputation of this historic institution.
