Save children from drowning -
May 24, 2023 12:00:00
Many of us may not know that drowning is the second leading cause of death for children under the age of five in Bangladesh. Each year, over 14,000 children in the country reportedly die from drowning. The World Health Organization (WHO) points out that drowning is one of the world's most preventable, yet neglected public health issues. Some days ago, three children of a family in Patuakhali drowned in a pond. It is not an isolated incident. Such incidents often take place in our country.
If we want to minimise deaths from drowning, government initiatives are a must. People from all walks of life too need to act more consciously. We should know that May, June and July are the most dangerous months when drowning incidents are more frequent in the country. With this, we have to raise public awareness and do all we can to save children's life from drowning.
