Save college/university campuses from violence
January 08, 2018 00:00:00
MOST students, as they take up undergraduate and post graduate studies, look forward to a peaceful and undisturbed campus. Sadly, the number of peaceful campuses at present is declining and political conflict and violence are spreading ominously. For instance, the incident of violence that erupted in Govt. Saadat College of Tangail recently was shocking for both students and teachers.
The incident that occurred due to intra-party conflict of a student organisation raised concerns of uncertainty among us as we do not know what future has in its store for us in the coming days. A cocktail blast during the conflict created panic among all students, teachers, and officials alike. We condemn such incidents and feel very concerned about the future of higher studies in the campus. All students are now worried since many universities and educational institutions had been closed down recently due to similar incidents of violence.
As a student and peace-loving citizen of the country, I would like to urge upon the authorities to take immediate steps to settle intra-party disputes through negotiations and ensure peace and harmony inside all campuses.
