Saving education from further degradation

As retired teachers of a secondary institution, we performed duties during S.S.C exams for a long time. We did not allow unfairness to be adopted by the examinees. The government then too was alert to eradicate unfair means from exams and was partly successful. But now unfair means are noticeable in the exam halls again. The board examiners are asked verbally to put qualifying marks on the exam scripts of those who do not otherwise qualify for the same. Not only that, in case of appointments of teachers, and even heads of educational institutions, merit and efficiency are hardly considered now-a-days. Partisan considerations get precedence over everything else. Unqualified persons are being appointed as a result of which quality of education is suffering.
None can deny that education is the backbone of a nation's progress. Unfortunately, our students who are the future leaders of our society are being deprived of quality education in the process. It is an undesirable situation that should be avoided at all costs. The authorities should intervene without further delay to stem the rot. The nation should be nurtured by worthy teachers who can distribute the light of education in a manner that illuminates the nation and the country.
