Saving female migrant workers
July 04, 2018 00:00:00
I was devastated after reading about the ordeals faced by female migrant workers of our country, while working in the Middle East, in the dailies over the past few weeks. In order to change their lot and the financial state of their families, these women had gone to the Middle East. But instead of becoming economically solvent, most of these migrants returned home with empty hands. They were also subject to humiliation, physical abuse, torture and what not.
Last month, more than 100 female migrant workers returned home after losing money and were mostly mentally traumatised. I think the government should consider the matter seriously and stop sending women workers to these countries. The government should also try to come to the aid of these workers. Families of some workers are not accepting them.
