Security at Boishakhi Mela

April 12, 2026 00:00:00

The Boishakhi Mela, marking the Bengali New Year, is an integral part of Bengali cultural life. People from all walks of life, regardless of religion and social background, gather in this celebration with a spirit of harmony. However, if security arrangements are neglected in such a large gathering of joy, culture and tradition, the festive spirit can easily be undermined.

Large crowds inevitably carry additional risks. Inadequate security at fairs across the country has often resulted in unfortunate incidents. There is a persistent risk of children getting lost, theft, robbery, trampling and other accidents. Women, in particular, are often vulnerable to harassment in such crowded environments, and regrettably, objectionable incidents have been reported in previous Boishakhi fairs.

To ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration, the fair authorities must take effective measures for crowd control and proper management. Law enforcement agencies should remain vigilant at all times. Adequate deployment of members of police, Ansar and volunteers is essential to prevent theft, harassment and other crimes.
