Security of NRBs

October 13, 2020 00:00:00

It's nothing new that Bangladeshi people living in South Africa have been living in an insecure atmosphere. They are hijacked, their properties are looted, and they are even killed, according to media reports from time to time. A section of locals and some foreigners are allegedly involved in such criminal activities.

Expatriate Bangladeshis fall victim to violence, repression and maltreatment in a number of countries where they go to earn money. In fact, migrants' security has been a global concern and Bangladesh has reasons to take advantage of global support to ensure their security in workplaces. There should be initiatives to talk with the host governments seeking security for Bangladeshis.

It is believed that bilateral talks between Bangladesh and countries like South Africa may help improve security situation for Bangladeshis. Migration through official channels and keeping legal documents may help improve the status of the Bangladeshi workers. The Bangladesh missions may make a database of the workers in each country and keep in touch with them so that they can seek help whenever they need.
