Security of state-owned banks
April 10, 2014 00:00:00
We have observed that money of a state-owned commercial bank was siphoned off through burglary on two occasions. It would not have happened if the authorities concerned had taken precautionary measures in advance to ensure safety measures of vault room/strong room. However, some bank branches are stationed in remote areas which are perilous for overall bank security. Though it was not a big sum in terms of the state-owned bank's deposit, it should be stopped. It may leave a negative impression on the banking sector if it is allowed to continue. However, the Bangladesh Bank has cautioned all the banks to take proper security measures for the vaults and strong rooms.
