Self-learning for Children

Children learn in many ways. They learn in cooperative learning environments, but they also love to learn independently, without the help of guardians and teachers. Through questioning, observation, reading, and listening, children become self-learners. Self-learning is the most effective method of learning. Learning independently fosters self-reliance and requires a strong desire for knowledge. When children become self-learners, they set their own learning goals, seek out their own materials, and discover their own methods of learning. There are many advantages of self-learning. It creates unforgettable experiences for children, can occur in any environment, and is often cost-effective. Knowledge gained through self-learning tends to be retained longer. Additionally, self-learning promotes critical thinking, cognitive development, and psychomotor skills. Children become active learners when engaged in self-learning.
Teachers and guardians should encourage self-learning by assigning specific tasks for children to solve independently. Children should be given opportunities for observation, exploration, and learning through hands-on activities. Guardians can create a home library and provide access to quality online content to support children's self-learning. They also enjoy storytelling, both listening to and telling stories independently. Sometimes, children engage in creative activities such as building model airplanes, ships, handmade machines, and small equipment, which further enhance their self-learning experiences. Self-learning can be applied to computer and language learning as well.
Through self-learning, children develop self-confidence, which plays a significant role in their development as a human being.
