Setting up more medical colleges
April 18, 2022 00:00:00
People in general have a common complaint against the physicians that they do not behave rationally with their patients and spend only a few minutes during appointments. Moreover, they charge exorbitant fees for their advice and other health services. They sometimes advise unnecessary diagnosis tests just to get some extra money from the diagnostic centres. They even do not examine the patients properly. Also, the physicians do not want to work in rural health centres. Sometimes, allegations of wrong treatment are raised against them.
The doctor to patient ratio in Bangladesh is one of the lowest in the world. Currently as many as 58 per cent of upazila hospitals reportedly do not have all the physicians they are supposed to have. To address this crisis, it is necessary to set up more medical college hospitals across the country. And the authorities concerned should recruit doctors from their respective areas. Besides, we must encourage our students more to study medical science.
