Seven murders an acid test

May 14, 2014 00:00:00

The public hearing on abduction and killing of seven persons in Narayanganj is seemingly not going on smoothly as a small number of people gave depositions before it.  It is natural as the perpetrators are very powerful and the common people fear reprisal. The seven murders have shocked the conscience of the people both at home and abroad. The ruling party people are directly involved in it. So, the common people don't want to upset them as they have already seen what may happen when powerful people are annoyed.

It is apparent that the government is not sincere in arresting the culprits. As a result, it is taking much time to take tough action. It seems that the seven murder case might face the same fate as the Sagar-Runi case and if it really happens, it will be very bad for our country and its law and order situation.

We hope the government will not try to save a few well-known terrorists because without taking stern action against them, it will fail to pacify the common men who want justice at any cost. The seven murder case is acid test for the government.
