Shahjahanpur intersection needs overpass

March 03, 2024 00:00:00

The number of vehicles in Dhaka city is increasing day by day, causing trouble for city dwellers, especially in various circular road areas in the capital. The introduction of the metro rail in the Uttara - Motijheel Khilgaon - Motijheel route has intensified traffic, particularly during office hours, due to excessive pressure on the Motijheel area. Bus services are limited on this route, but alternative modes of transportation such as motorcycles, legunas, rickshaws, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, bicycles, and covered vans have significantly increased.

Khilgaon and adjacent areas are known to be overpopulated in the capital city. Residents commute to various important locations including the High Court, Supreme Court, Judge Court, Dhaka University, and Notre Dame College. Motijheel, known as a Bank Para, houses the Central Bank along with a large insurance company.

Traffic jams are a common occurrence at Shahjahanpur intersection area. Additionally, the Rajarbag police line is located here, and various administrative and public transport services pass through this route. Long queues are often seen in these traffic jams, with even ambulances carrying patients waiting for hours to cross the signal.

In the circumstances, the authorities concerned are requested to construct an overpass at Shahjahanpur intersection on an emergency basis.
