A sad, grim and horrible scene has been unfolding over the past few days as mass graves of migrants, including people mostly from Bangladesh and Myanmar, are being found in Malaysia and Thailand. So far 140 human remains have been found along Malaysia and Thailand border only. Those who are involved in this inhuman trade must face its consequences and the causes behind such risky and desperate migration must be eliminated. Due to rising unemployment, many youths are taking a risky decision to go to the developed countries for a better life through illegal channels. Many lost their lives on the way and some died a miserable death on foreign lands.
We need to address the root cause of such migration. Superficial band aid will not solve this nagging problem. Many powerful groups are involved in this lucrative human trafficking trade which makes the law enforcing agencies somewhat helpless in dealing with the issue. The agencies need a clear signal from their higher authority to bring those culprits to book. The media, on the other hand, should create social awareness so that the youths of the country are not lured by the heartless traffickers.
