Shunning deep-fried Iftar items

April 12, 2022 00:00:00

The holy month of Ramadan is back again. During this month, the faithful Muslims break their daylong fasting with delicacies of Iftar. Almost every restaurant of Dhaka city displays their special and traditional Iftar items on open-air stalls and tables. And for many of us Iftar remains incomplete without having some of those beautifully-decorated food items. Sadly, all that looks good is not good. The Iftar foods sold in makeshift shops contain chemical additives, which are very harmful for health. The deep-fried Iftar items not only have unsafe colours but also contain fat and oil. These alluring fatty and fried food stuffs are no doubt delicious but they come at a cost.

A recent study has found that beside obesity, these deep-fried Iftar items are bad for cardiovascular health. After a long fasting day, fried food causes more harm to the body than good. Most of these foods can cause irritable bowel syndrome, heartburn and other discomforts. They also make any activity following Iftar difficult. So, physicians and nutritionists nowadays are advising us to avoid these fried foods as much as possible during the fasting month.
