Electricity is an indispensable driving force for development of countries in today's world. The number of new power plants in Bangladesh has been on the rise since 2009. While increasing the power generation capacity, transmission and distribution services to urban and rural areas have also been expanded. A big portion of the country's rapid economic growth can be attributed to this sector.
The undesirable aspect of electricity's spread across the country is that the number of electrical accidents or electrocution incidents is on the rise. Every other day, a newspaper reader can spot articles on such incidents in rural and urban areas. Many of these incidents are caused by carelessness and ignorance of electricians who are not technically skilled or adequately trained.
Numerous government polytechnic institutes are providing technical courses to aspiring electricians at affordable prices. Still the number of trained electricians coming out from these institutes is very low.
The Bangladesh Technical Education Board can make arrangements to increase training courses for the electricians. They can increase the number of these classes and also initiate an awareness campaign about as to how such training can help the electricians gain an edge. Some of these trained electricians can also apply for jobs abroad. As the reach of electricity is increasing in the country, safe use of it and proper maintenance of electrical devices are very necessary now.
