A sudden price hike of onions in the kitchen market has left the common people in the lurch. Price of onion has gone up by almost 150 per cent and there is a fear that the price may go up still further. At home, my wife refuses to serve me an extra onion slice with my lunch. Onion is essential for daily cooking and the common people are using less opinion because of its price factor.
India is one of the biggest onion producers of the world, but it is also facing onion deficit and due to price gap onion is being smuggled outside Bangladesh. I hope the government will soon bring back normalcy in the onion market and bring the unscrupulous traders to book. It always happens so before Eid and the middle and the lower income people are the worst sufferers.
