Sonargaon Hotel area

Hotel Sonargaon is a prestigious 5-star hotel of the country but its surroundings are dirty and unhealthy to say the least. As one comes out of the hotel and walks for five minutes, be it towards north, south, east or west, the surroundings do not give a pleasant sight for a pedestrian or a tourist as often projected by our tourism authorities. Wholesale fish markets are within a few hundred meters of the hotel and shanty structures around are just not acceptable.

As one walks towards the north, one finds a fish market area in a deplorable condition. The wholesale market area for lemon, potato, onion etc. nearby is in a dangerous position as the ground floor of the three storied building contains dozens of steel props to stop the collapsing beams from falling down. It is not acceptable since the market is hardly 20 years old. Artificial flowers made from paper, cloth, rexin etc. are found surrounding the hotel presumably for beautification purposes, although we grow natural flowers abundantly. The authority can easily develop beautiful market-cum-shopping complexes in this area  after demolishing all those shanty structures and cleaning the shabby areas close to the Hotel Sonargaon. reksin
