Sorry state of a healthcare facility in Cumilla

Twenty years ago, a 20-bed hospital was established in Goharua village of Nangalkot upazila in Cumilla with the promise of providing better healthcare to the residents of Nangalkot, Manoharganj, Sonaimuri, and Senbagh upazilas. The local community hoped that this facility would significantly improve their access to quality health services. Unfortunately, this promise has not been fulfilled.
The hospital has never been fully operational, and it suffers from untidy and unsanitary conditions. Despite efforts by locals and voluntary organisations to clean the premises, the institution, including its yard, remains in a state of neglect.
The consequences of this situation are severe. The lack of a fully functioning hospital means that residents of these areas are deprived of essential healthcare services. People with urgent medical needs are forced to travel long distances to receive treatment, which can be costly and time-consuming. This lack of accessible healthcare can lead to worsening health conditions, delayed treatment, and, in some cases, preventable deaths.
The local residents are calling for the hospital to be fully operational. Activating this facility would benefit not only the immediate community but also the lakhs of people in the surrounding areas. It is crucial that the authorities concerned take this matter seriously and take prompt action to ensure that the hospital operates at its full capacity. Doing so would greatly enhance the healthcare infrastructure in this region and improve the quality of life for countless individuals.
