VIENNA, Jul 18 (AP): A senior US envoy will meet Friday with the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency to discuss Iran's contentious atomic programme and moves to open the way for India to import nuclear technology.
The talks bringing US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs William Burns together with IAEA head Mohamed ElBaradei come at crucial moments for both Tehran and New Delhi.
India is looking to muster support from the 35-nation IAEA board for an agreement that opens part of its civilian nuclear facilities to IAEA inspection - a step on the path of Indian efforts to gain access to nuclear fuel and technology. And Burns Saturday will attend Geneva talks with Iran on its nuclear program - the first time the US has had such a presence.
