Stimulus for employment

Despite an emphasis on creating employment since the beginning of the pandemic, Bangladesh has not been able to create jobs for new entrants as well as for those who have lost working opportunities. This has been reflected in a latest report that the organisations and sectors that received assistance from the government's stimulus packages account for only 8.0 per cent of the total employment. Almost more than 55 per cent of the stimulus support has no impact on employment.
This only confirms public concern and recommendations by experts that supports should be targeted to creation or retention of jobs. Why jobs are so important is perhaps not a question that needs answer. To save millions and also to ensure inclusive growth, there is no alternative to keeping people engaged in working opportunities. The authorities concerned should also offer support and business climate for the youth to take new initiatives.
