Stop abuse of domestic workers
February 11, 2026 00:00:00
In the present context of Bangladesh, the abuse of domestic child workers has become a horrifying social problem. In their struggle to support their families, many parents send their children to work as domestic helps in urban households. Behind the glittering city apartments, these children are often subjected to inhuman treatment by people who hide behind a mask of social respectability.
At an age when they should be going to school and playing, their days begin with mopping floors, sweeping rooms and taking care of others' children. Even minor mistakes can lead to scolding, physical assault, denial of food and severe psychological abuse. Such cruelty deprives them of their childhood and basic human dignity.
Although laws against child abuse exist in Bangladesh, their proper implementation is rarely seen in reality. Too often, power and wealth prevail over humanity, allowing such abuse to continue unchecked. Children are the future of the nation, and allowing them to suffer in silence threatens our moral and social foundations.
