Stop misuse of gas
September 21, 2022 00:00:00
We cannot think of a single day without gas. The use of gas for various purposes starting from cooking to industrial production is increasing day by day. However, gas reserves in Bangladesh are not increasing proportionately. One of the main causes for gas crisis is the misuse of gas in every sector. It is a sad reality that many people do not turn off their gas burners only to save a matchstick. As the bill is fixed, it does not matter to most people whether you keep burning your stove all day long or not. Some people keep gas stoves burning during the winter months to warm their houses. A few of them even dry up their clothes by burning gas stoves. In this way, we are wasting gas sometimes unknowingly and sometimes knowingly.
The authorities concerned could have prevented this wastage from the very beginning by implementing prepaid system for gas use. They should immediately introduce prepaid metres to stop the wastage. They can also make it mandatory to use the gas burner which is turned on only when there is something on the burner and turned off when it is removed. Besides, consumers should also realise the importance of gas and act accordingly.
