The Metro Rail service in Dhaka plays a crucial role in easing off traffic congestion, saving time and improving the daily lives of commuters. Every day, as I travel to school and coaching classes in the Mirpur area, I admire the architectural beauty of the Metro Rail and watch it pass overhead. It's a truly charming sight. Unfortunately, this charm is often spoiled by unpleasant scenes: posters plastered on pillars, hanging billboards, and even instances of public urination and defecation near the structures.
At times, I see hawkers, rickshaw pullers, and others engaging in such acts openly and without hesitation. This kind of visual pollution not only disturbs me but also impacts many other city dwellers mentally and emotionally.
The Metro Rail is public property, and no one has the right to deface or damage it. Maintaining a clean and attractive Metro system requires everyone's cooperation. No one should be allowed to misuse or tarnish it.
Election posters, advertisements, and movie banners are slowly degrading the appearance of the Metro pillars. I believe it's essential to control such activities -- including wall writing and illegal poster placement -- to preserve the mega structure, beauty, and dignity of our city.
With greater awareness and a sense of personal responsibility, we can prevent this problem. I strongly urge the authorities concerned to take strict action and ensure that the Metro pillars are protected from misuse of any kind.
