Students continue to suffer

December 04, 2020 00:00:00

The Covid-19 pandemic has been a disaster for education as online education seems to be of no use both for students and teachers across Bangladesh. There are some areas in the country where mobile phone network is hard to get let alone uninterrupted internet facilities. Many students, who are lucky to have all the facilities for attending online classes, find it difficult to keep concentrating on the so-called live classes. Again when it is needed, many students cannot get the response of teachers. For teachers, it becomes quite difficult to complete the lessons within the stipulated time. The assignments the students are submitting to their educational institutions are nothing but copy-paste from guide books. In some cases, private tutors are preparing the assignments supposed to be done by students. There is no examination nor any practical class or lab task for students. Academically, this has been a wasted year for students.

The prevailing situation demands prompt and prudent action by the government. A detailed and exhaustive study on the effects of the pandemic on education sector is a must which may somehow help minimise the loss we have already had and subsequently plan a viable solution to fight the future damage.
