Suicide: Alarmingly on rise
October 02, 2014 00:00:00
Incidents of suicide are rising alarmingly in the country. With the advent of technology people are becoming more attached to the virtual world and are increasingly being disconnected with the real-life situations and real people who live nearby. Nowadays, even when we socialise we remain busy fiddling with our smartphones, and there is little conversation with the person/s sitting in front of us. This takes us to a mechanical world. We have to disconnect ourselves for sometime from technology and connect ourselves with our surroundings. Computer, smartphone, television are, of course, not bad, but we need to balance our lives.
Being disconnected is a common malady afflicting most people in the post-modern world. As a result of lack of communication with friends and family members, people in critical situations are not able to hold themselves up with a positive mindset.
One statistics says, every year 800,000 people take their own lives due to depression induced mental states. Young people are more prone to suicide as they can not handle disappointments in life. Among other things, we should create awareness among the common people, particularly the young, so that they do not take rash decision like suicide which is also prohibited by all major religions of the world.
