Startups are recognised as an important driving force of innovation, employment and economic growth around the world. Like many other countries, Bangladesh has a great opportunity to benefit from this growing entrepreneurial movement.
New startups open the door to job opportunities, especially for young graduates entering the job market. Instead of solely relying on traditional employment sectors, startups encourage individuals to become job creators rather than job seekers. This not only reduces unemployment but also contributes to the overall productivity of the economy.
Moreover, startups frequently introduce innovative ideas, technologies, and products that can improve existing industries and services. Bangladeshi startups are already showing promising progress in many sectors, such as information technology (IT), e-commerce, and fintech. If these startups receive proper support, they can compete in international markets and strengthen the country's economic position.
However, many startups in Bangladesh face several challenges, including limited funding, a lack of mentorship, and a complex regulatory system. Instead of trusting new startups or ideas, many funding institutions prefer to invest in stable or already growing
businesses.
To address this issue, it is crucial for the government, financial institutions, and private organisations to create a supportive ecosystem for entrepreneurs. This will motivate young entrepreneurs to pursue innovation rather than merely seeking jobs.
As a developing nation, supporting new startups is essential for building a strong and sustainable economy in Bangladesh. By encouraging innovation and entrepreneurship, more employment opportunities can be created, ensuring long-term economic growth.
