Tackling noise pollution-

Noise pollution has emerged as a serious environmental and public health concern in our country. It has become alarmingly common due to the indiscriminate use of vehicle horns, industrial machinery, construction activities and loudspeakers.
The adverse effects of noise pollution on human health are well documented. Prolonged exposure to high levels of noise can cause hearing impairment, sleep disturbances, headaches, stress and hypertension. It also reduces concentration and mental efficiency, affecting students' academic performance and workers' productivity. Hospitals, schools and residential areas are particularly vulnerable, as excessive noise disrupts essential activities and undermines the quality of life.
Noise pollution also poses a threat to wildlife. Birds and animals often become distressed by persistent noise, which can alter their natural behaviour, force them to abandon their habitats and disrupt ecological balance.
Addressing this problem requires both public awareness and effective enforcement of existing regulations. The unnecessary use of vehicle horns should be discouraged, while sound levels from loudspeakers and other sources must be kept within permissible limits. Industries and construction sites should adopt appropriate noise-control measures, and silent zones around hospitals and educational institutions must be strictly protected.
