Take action against pirates
March 13, 2025 00:00:00
The Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, is not only a reserve of natural beauty but also a vital source of livelihood for thousands of fishermen in Bangladesh. However, the recent resurgence of piracy has plunged the security of this region into a deep crisis. Many fishermen are now afraid to venture into the Sundarbans to catch fish for fear of pirates. As a result, they have no earning. The country's fisheries sector is also suffering.
When fishermen go fishing in the Sundarbans, pirates often seize their boats, demand ransom, and rob them of valuable equipment. In some cases, they even threaten lives. In the past, strict measures taken by law enforcement agencies helped free the Sundarbans from piracy, but the current situation has once again become alarming.
Protecting the Sundarbans is not only about safeguarding nature; it is also about protecting the lives of thousands of fishermen and the nation's economy. If this situation persists, the livelihoods of the fishermen in the Sundarbans will become increasingly difficult, and the region's economy will face severe consequences.
Therefore, I earnestly appeal to law enforcement agencies and the authorities concerned to take swift and decisive action to resolve this crisis.
