Tampering with Grameen Bank

The government is fiddling with our prize possession, the Nobel Prize-winning institution Grameen Bank. It is sad and disturbing. We have seen the poor conditions of the state-owned banks, and one wonders if the Grameen Bank will eventually follow the same course.
The government is thinking about changing the rules of Grameen Bank board for electing the board members. Bangladesh Bank has already refused to conduct the process of electing directors of Grameen Bank.
The bank is the brainchild of Nobel laureate Dr Muhammad Yunus. He has earned a lot of accolades from around the world for his innovative idea about micro-lending. The model of Grameen Bank is now being followed in the whole world. But it is alleged that the government is trying to tamper with the model and destroy its basic concept.
I hope the government will desist from tampering with the Grameen Bank model. It should let the bank remain the way it has been since its founding.
