While bidding farewell to the Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Kazi Imtiaz Hossain, the permanent secretary for labour of Thailand Jeersak Sukhonthachart informed that the Labour Ministry of Thailand is ready to import Bangladeshi labourers to work in the fishing industry if there is still a worker shortage following registrations of migrant workers from three neighbouring countries - Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. The permanent secretary informed that the ministry was surveying projected migrant worker demand over the next four years for all industries which is expected to finish in a couple of months. The ministry would then await worker registrations from Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos. If there is still a shortage in the fishing industry then workers will be imported from Bangladesh to fill up the gap in this industry.
This is very positive news for the labour industry of Bangladesh not only because the country will be able to export manpower but also because it will open a new door for the labour industry of Bangladesh, which will help diversify the labour market of the country. I would like to thank  Bangladeshi Ambassador Mr Hossain for his sincere efforts in strengthening the ties between the two countries and also for his continuous follow-up with the Thai government regarding this issue.
