The spirits of the recent World Cup cricket have not yet evaporated. Finally, Bangladesh has transformed into a powerful cricketing nation after Banglawashing Pakistan in three consecutive one-day internationals (ODI) that dumbfounded Pakistan, the world champions of 1992.
Once Pakistan used to come to Bangladesh and play with a 'vini, vidi, vici' mindset. The three famous words quoted by Roman emperor Julius Caesar (100-44 BC) mean I came, I saw and I conquered!
It did not happen so this time and instead of being the conqueror, Pakistan was conquered by the once minnows of world cricket, Bangladesh.
Pakistan was beaten convincingly by 79 runs in the first ODI, in the 2nd ODI by 7 wickets with 11.5 overs to spare and in the 3rd ODI by 8 wickets with 10.3 overs remaining. As a result, Bangladesh tasted its first ever series victory against Pakistan.
The brilliant batting display by Tamim Iqbal who scored 132, 116 not out and 64 in 1st, 2nd and 3rd ODIs respectively, earned him the player of the series award.
Both Mushfiqur Rahim (106) and Soumya Sarker (127 not out) hit centuries that earned them "Player of the Match" awards in the 1st and 3rd ODI respectively. Congratulations to all of them!
I would like to celebrate the occasion in praise of the Tigers with following song:
"When you wish upon a star
Makes no difference who you are,
Anything your heart desires
Will come to you.
If your heart is in your dream
No request is too extreme,
When you wish upon a star
As dreamers do.
Like a bolt out of the blue
Fate steps in and see you through,
When you wish upon a star
Your dreams come true!"
