The joy and suffering of Eid travel
March 17, 2026 00:00:00
Eid is a time of joy, happiness and reunion with loved ones. People eagerly wait for this special occasion throughout the year. For those who live away from home for work or study, Eid carries an even deeper emotional meaning, as they rush back to their villages and towns to celebrate the festival with their families.
Unfortunately, for many travellers this joyful journey often turns into a painful ordeal. During the Eid season, public transport fares frequently increase abnormally, placing an additional burden on passengers. As a result, many lower- and middle-income people who come to cities in search of livelihood find it extremely difficult to return home. While everyone wishes to buy new clothes and arrange good food for their families during Eid, the extra travel expenses often force many to compromise on these basic joys of the festival.
Another major concern during Eid travel is the rise in road accidents. Every year, reckless driving, overcrowded vehicles and poor traffic management lead to tragic incidents on highways. In many cases, the happiness of Eid for some families turns into grief within moments.
Therefore, it is essential to ensure that public transport fares remain reasonable during the Eid season. At the same time, drivers should be encouraged to follow traffic rules and drive cautiously to prevent accidents. The authorities concerned must take effective steps to monitor fares, ensure safe transport services and strengthen road safety measures.
Only then can the Eid journey become truly safe, comfortable and enjoyable for everyone.
