The police law should be reframed

For the last couple of decades, the Bangladesh police have been operating under direct influence of the party in power. Whoever is in power, uses the police force in its own interest. So we see a degradation of law and order in our country off and on. I agree with the former cabinet Secretary Dr Akbar Ali Khan that the police act needs to be reframed so that they can work without interference by the ruling party leaders and the law can take its own course.
If we fail to ensure transparency and accountability in the police force, we shall not be able to establish justice in our society. The law enforcing agency should always be friends to the common people. But the present image of the police is such that the common people do not normally want to take their help. I believe, if the police law is reframed, it will help them work free and fairly. The world is moving forward, so we must also reframe our police law as per today's requirement.
