The brilliant performance by the Tigers in the second One-Day International (ODI) against Pakistan outran their previous performances by a long way. It was the second win against their formidable opponents in 16 years when the Tigers last beat them in 1999 World Cup. Everybody watched a rather subdued celebration by the hosts after the match which only confirmed that the victory was expected. Tamim and Mushfiq played beautifully and guided Bangladesh to an easy victory. Tamim scored another century and Mushfiq scored 65. It was the Bangladeshi bowling that blunted any hopes that the Pakistanis could have harboured.
The batsmen also played well and reached the target easily for a loss of only three wickets with 70 balls to spare. The presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina greatly bolstered the enthusiasm of the players and their determination to achieve a well-deserved victory in this match and win the series with a game to spare. This was the first series victory of the Tigers against Pakistan.
The victory will definitely encourage our youths to work hard and achieve the greater victories. The new-look Pakistan side appeared totally helpless against the Tigers and they will have to improve a lot if they want to make any contest out of the upcoming matches. At the same time, there is no scope for complacence for the Tigers and take the remaining matches lightly. The third and final ODI will be played Wednesday next. The whole country will be waiting to see a white wash.
