The tragic hit-and-run case

Salman Khan, the popular Hindi movie superstar, has recently been awarded 5-year jail term for killing a person and injuring five others in 2002 when he was drunk while driving. The case caught instant media attention.

Being an ardent fan of Salman Khan, my heart broke when I learnt about his jail sentence. The whole Indian movie industry has rallied behind him. The tragic hit-and-run incident took place when Salman drove over a Mumbai pavement and killed a man who was sleeping there and seriously injured five others.

Salman Khan came to limelight from his movie Maine pyar kiya and thereafter he did not have to look back. Soon he became one of the most popular actors of Hindi cinema and the most eligible bachelor. His numerous love affairs adorned the headlines of news magazines.

I hope, the Dabaang Star will learn a good lesson from this incident. Drunk driving is a serious offence which not only endangers the lives of those who drink and drive, but also those who happen to be nearby.

One should not forget that we are accountable for our activities no matter howsoever mighty and powerful we may consider ourselves to be.
