The wintry chill and sufferings of the destitute
December 16, 2014 00:00:00
The whole country is shivering in cold and the poor and destitute people are the worst sufferers. Even in Dhaka city, we see a lot of people, including women and children, sleeping under the open sky. They do not have enough winter clothes to shield themselves against chill.
But we, the relatively better off community, can come forward and donate warm clothes lying in our cupboards which we do not use any more.
The winter is a season for lavish wedding parties and picnics, but we can cut down such expenses and donate the money for the less fortunate.
The cold weather will get worse in the coming days and all of us should come forward to help them with our abandoned winter clothes. If all of us respond, I am sure it will mitigate their sufferings to a great extent.
