The World Cup Football begins today. When we go out we feel how the city is gripped with the World Cup fever. TV channels have been airing special programmes on this mega sports event. Brazil has become centre of attraction. The world will witness the best of football action during the next one month. We hope, this World Cup will present us many new shinning stars.
Dhaka's skyline is already occupied with the colourful flags and banners of Argentina and Brazil. We hardly see the flags of any other participating nations. It seems our country has been divided into two camps, Brazil and Argentina. Suddenly the business of TV sets has reached its peak.
When we go out we see plenty of young people wearing jerseys of Brazil or Argentina. Our readymade garments sector is also playing a part in this World Cup as we are one of the manufactures of jerseys of the World Cup-playing nations. The World Cup Football has brought the people of every corner of the world more close than before.
We need peace not war and tournaments like World Cup Football can diminish our differences and bitterness and create fraternity and harmony amongst us.
