Third terminal at Dhaka airport

September 15, 2021 00:00:00

It is good to know that the construction of the third terminal at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka has been going on in full swing. Once completed, the international airport will be able to handle 20 million passengers a year. The construction is likely to complete by the end of 2023. Currently, the airport can handle some eight million passengers. The quality of service at the airport is also not very good. Harassment of passengers is a regular thing there. There is also an allegation of damages of luggage of inbound passengers. Workers and labourers who arrive from the Middle East, Malaysia and Europe usually face harassments of diverse nature at the airport. Everyone ---from customs to security staff to unauthorised brokers ---makes their arrival troublesome. There is also inadequate assistance facility for the out-bound unskilled and low-skilled workers who are mostly less educated.

So, it is necessary to improve the quality of service to make the new terminal passenger-friendly. The authorities have to deploy adequately trained staff to handle the passengers with care. All the modern logistics to handle the luggage of the passengers should also be there.
