The Tigers have received a shock by cricket entrant Hong Kong. From the batting of the Tigers it was apparent that they had taken Hong Kong very lightly and soon paid the price. The arrogance of the Bangladeshi batsmen haunted them in this match. Once a team like Bangladesh scored mere 108, there remained little for our bowlers to defend.
Forty-years-old Munir Dar stood firm at the end, sunk the Tigers in an ignominious defeat in front of a packed home crowd. He scored 36 off 27 balls. Dar has played only two One-day International so far. When Bangladesh innings began, Nadim, left-arm-spin bowler of Hong Kong, came out from nowhere, and became the chief wrecker of Bangladesh's innings by taking four wickets, giving away 21 runs in his stipulated four overs.
The Tigers must change their attitude when they play against associate nations for losing against teams like Afghanistan and Hong Kong raises question on their performance.
It is positive that we have reached the Super 10s. Bangladesh joins defending champions the West Indies, Pakistan, India and Australia in Group 2 and it is a much difficult challenge. The Tigers need more consistency and maturity in their performance.
