It is good that the life-style of the people here is slowly but gradually going to be changed for the better. The number of poor people is decreasing because of good facilities made available in cities and towns. Almost 3 per cent people are migrating to urban centres for better opportunities.
Analysts say that if Bangladesh gets technological support from developed countries, the number of poor people would have been reduced within a few years.
According to a report of the World Bank, Bangladesh has been ranked the fourth among five countries including India and China where 64 per cent poor people of the world is living. Neighbouring India has ranked first where most of the poor people are living. In spite of being a fast developing country, a large number of poor people are living in India, compared to other countries. This is because inequitable distribution of income.
According to the World Bank president, even if all countries grow at the same rate as they did in the past 20 years, poverty in the world will fall to 10 per cent by 2030 from 17.7 per cent in 2010.
To reduce extreme poverty, larger numbers of poorest will have to be decreased. All countries including developed ones will have to take more responsibilities and provide all resources to end extreme poverty. A proper technological support is also a crying need to overcome this hindrance. The poor countries need to adopt well-thought-out policies.
Analysts believe that the private sector also needs to play a significant role to end extreme poverty. It could fund projects that help strike welfare of the poor. There is also need for corruption-free implementation of all pro-poor projects that have been undertaken by the government.
