Too early to lower our guard against Covid-19

April 11, 2022 00:00:00

Covid-19 cases have significantly declined in Bangladesh. But it is too early to relax all preventive measures. Most of us no longer wear face masks and sanitise hands. We must not forget that many of us are yet to take our second or booster doses of coronavirus vaccine.

If we look back, we will be able to see that coronavirus re-emerged strongly in the past by rapidly mutating itself. We just cannot afford to be complacent about the current low infection rate. Scientists have already predicted another wave of infections. Countries like China have seen a rise in cases recently. A new variant called XE, which is more virulent than Omicron, has been found in the United Kingdom. So, we must guard ourselves by following all the basic health protocols against this virus.
