Toribiong confirmed as new Palau president

KOROR, Nov 12 (AFP): Lawyer Johnson Toribiong was elected as Palau's new president after counting was completed following the November 4 election in the tiny Pacific state, electoral officials said.
Toribiong and vice-presidential running mate Kerai Mariur secured 5,040 votes compared with rival and current Vice-President Elias Camsek Chin's 4,828.
The vote count, completed late Tuesday, is due to be confirmed next week.
